How to apply?
Applications must be submitted exclusively via the electronic form available on the PPGMUS website. The application period is from February 9 to March 10, 2026.
I am a foreigner and do not have a CPF (Brazilian Tax ID). How should I handle the application fee?
Foreigners without a CPF must contact the PPGMUS Office (ppgmus@musica.ufmg.br) before applying to receive instructions on how to pay the fee and how the GRU (collection form) will be issued.
Is the research pre-proposal anonymous? How should it be submitted?
Yes. By requirement of the PRPG, pre-proposals must be anonymous. Therefore, only the cover page, which must be submitted as a separate file, should contain the candidate’s identification. The content of the proposal must be submitted in a separate document without any data, marks, or signs that could identify the candidate, under penalty of disqualification.
How should the letter of intent be written?
The letter of intent must be attached to the research pre-proposal and remain anonymous. It should justify the proposal in relation to the objectives of PPGMUS, the bibliographic/artistic production of the faculty, and the research projects coordinated by them.
Is the selection process entirely remote? In which language can I take the written exam?
Yes. Although the Master’s and Doctoral programs are held in person in Belo Horizonte/MG, the selection process is entirely remote.
Regarding Exam 1 (Written Exam), foreign candidates may choose to take it in English or Spanish, provided they indicate this option at the time of application.
Can I attend in person for any stage of the selection?
No. All stages (written exams, performances, and interviews) are conducted online.
I am a Brazilian candidate. How does the foreign language proficiency requirement work?
Brazilian candidates must present proof of proficiency in a foreign language (English, French, Italian, Spanish, or German) at the time of application. Accepted exams include Cenex/Fale/UFMG (taken within the last 3 years), international certificates (minimum B1 level), or a degree in Languages (Letras). Exceptionally, if the document cannot be presented during application, it may be submitted after potential approval within 12 months (Master’s) or 24 months (Doctorate).
I am a foreign candidate. How does the proficiency requirement work?
Foreign candidates who are selected must prove proficiency in Portuguese (Celpe-Bras or equivalent) within 12 months (Master’s) or 24 months (Doctorate) from their first enrollment.
- Indigenous Candidates: If Portuguese is not their native language, they will take a Portuguese proficiency exam and are exempt from another foreign language.
- PcD (Persons with Disabilities): Candidates with hearing impairments who use Libras as their first language will also take a Portuguese proficiency exam and are exempt from another foreign language.
I am applying for the Musical Performance track. When and how should I send the video link for Exam 2?
On the day of the written exam (April 10, 2026), the candidate must attach a PDF file to the Moodle platform containing the audiovisual link of their performance, following the template in Annex 3 of the notice.
I am a Musical Performance candidate. What are the guidelines for the Exam 2 video?
- The performance must have a total duration of 12 to 18 minutes, containing at least two contrasting works.
- Recordings must be made between February 9 and April 9, 2026.
- Before each piece, the candidate must say: “Gravação feita para o exame de seleção 2026 do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Música da UFMG”.
- No camera cuts are allowed during the pieces or between the spoken introduction and the performance.
I am a candidate for Analytical and Creative Processes. How and when should the portfolio be sent?
At the time of application, you must submit two distinct artistic and/or bibliographic productions. Items such as scores and recordings of the same work are considered a single production. Participation in cases of co-authorship must be explicitly stated.
How do the quota system and self-declaration work?
- Separate Notices: Black candidates apply for reserved slots within the Regular Notice (154/2026). Indigenous candidates and Persons with Disabilities (PcD) follow the Supplementary Notice (155/2026).
- Black Candidates: Must provide a reasoned self-declaration in the application form. Eligibility will be confirmed by an in-person hetero-identification committee after final results.
- Indigenous Candidates: Must present a self-recognition declaration, a declaration signed by three leaders, and proof of residence in an indigenous community.
- Persons with Disabilities (PcD): Must attach a medical report with the ICD-10 code. Classified candidates will undergo a Verification and Validation Board at UFMG.
I already submitted the application form; can I resubmit it with corrections?
You may resubmit the application form until March 10, 2026. If you have submitted your application more than once, only the last submission will be considered.

- Artificial Intelligence: The use of AI is strictly prohibited in the writing of the written exam.
